COLLECTING ART
01/08/2007
Art has been trying to get into people's homes and lives the subversive way for years. "Inside artists" have been trying to play nice, producing functional works (Virgil Marti's wallpaper , Nara's ashtray , Murakami's bag for Louis Vuitton) that could fit nicely in your living room or on your person. "Street artists" have been so frustrated that they've had to take it outside. Artists like Swoon , Banksy , and Shepard Fairey , have stuck beautiful/weird works right under our noses.
It's pay back time. Art collecting is coming back into vogue. The past-time is younger and hipper then it has ever been. You really should have seen it coming when eighties fashion had a major comeback. It is once again important to hang things of high cultural relevance in your house.
Philadelphians (or those of you from farther away who wish to travel) have an investment opportunity approaching in the LLG (Locally Localized Gravity) show at the ICA. Start your collection by following rule number five . See what the young blood of the area has to offer and grab a financial opportunity on the ground floor.
like the idea, but the art ain't so hot.
